U.S. forces have located in Venezuela two additional components of Russian-made Buk-M2E air defense systems that were destroyed during an attack carried out on January 3.

The equipment was found near Carmen de Uría, in the state of Vargas, and images were published by the newspaper TalCual.

The photographs indicate the presence of two destroyed launchers or a launcher accompanied by a transporter-loader vehicle. These targets were reportedly struck during a U.S. operation aimed at capturing President Nicolás Maduro, increasing the number of confirmed losses of the Venezuelan air defense system.

Previous reports had already indicated the destruction of three Buk-M2E vehicles and damage to five others. Confirmed losses include a 9A316E launcher destroyed at the port of La Guaira, another hit in Caracas, and a 9S510E command center eliminated at Higuerote Air Base.

U.S. authorities state that the Russian systems were not connected to radar stations during the offensive, which compromised their response capability. Experts attribute the low level of operational readiness to years of corruption, logistical failures, international sanctions, and the limited involvement of Russian instructors and technicians responsible for maintaining the equipment.
